Your Game Boy library on the big screen
Nintendo released the Game Boy Player in 2003. It connects to the Hi-Speed Port on the underside of a GameCube and adds a cartridge slot to the front of the console. Boot the start-up disc and the GameCube runs your cartridge on the TV, from Pokemon Emerald and Metroid Fusion to Link's Awakening DX and the original Tetris. The disc menu lets you pick a border frame, change the screen size and choose a filter to soften or sharpen the picture.
Controllers and link play
Any standard GameCube controller works, and a WaveBird works too. For players who prefer handheld controls, a Game Boy Advance connected through the GameCube to Game Boy Advance cable can act as the controller. There is a link port on the front of the Game Boy Player, so it can trade or battle with a real handheld over a Game Link Cable. Games built with Game Boy Player rumble support, such as Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, also shake the GameCube controller.
Before you buy a used Game Boy Player
The start-up disc is required, since the Game Boy Player does nothing without it. Look at the disc for deep circular scratches. On the unit, check the connector that plugs into the GameCube for bent or dirty pins, and look in the cartridge slot for debris. The GameCube, controllers and cables are not part of the listing unless the title names them.

Does the Game Boy Player work on a Wii?
No. The Game Boy Player needs the Hi-Speed Port on the bottom of a Nintendo GameCube. The Wii and Wii U do not have that port, even though the original Wii plays GameCube discs.
Does it work without the start-up disc?
No. The GameCube boots the Game Boy Player from the start-up disc and cannot run cartridges without it. This listing includes the start-up disc, as the title says. GameCube discs are region coded, so a North American disc runs on a North American GameCube.
Can it play Nintendo DS games?
