What the 3000 changed
Sony released the PSP-3000 in 2008 as an update to the slimmer PSP-2000. The 4.3-inch screen has a wider color range and an anti-glare finish, so it holds up better near a window. A microphone is built into the front, so games and voice chat features could use it without an add-on. The 3000 can also send games to a TV through the PSP video cable, including interlaced output for older sets. Wi-Fi, a Memory Stick PRO Duo slot for saves and the swappable battery carry over from earlier models.
A UMD library worth building
The PSP's discs, called UMDs, hold some of the strongest handheld games of their time. God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta brought Kratos to a portable. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Persona 3 Portable still draw players, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite built a following around local co-op hunts. The PSP also plays UMD movies, and it can hold music and video on a Memory Stick. Downloaded PSP games and PS one Classics run from the Memory Stick as well.
