A GBA that fits in a pocket
Nintendo released the Micro in 2005 as a compact take on the Game Boy Advance. It measures about four inches across and weighs under three ounces, and its faceplate pops off so it can be swapped for another design. The two-inch screen is backlit with adjustable brightness, and because the pixels are packed tightly, games like Advance Wars and Golden Sun look very sharp. The layout mirrors the GBA with a D-pad, A and B, L and R, Start and Select, and there is a standard headphone jack.
What it plays, and what it does not
The Micro plays Game Boy Advance game paks only. Unlike the original GBA and the GBA SP, it cannot run older Game Boy or Game Boy Color cartridges, so Pokemon Red or Link's Awakening DX will not work. That still leaves the whole GBA library, from Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon FireRed to Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Metroid: Zero Mission. Multiplayer needs a link cable made for the Micro, because its port is smaller than the one on other GBA models.
Looking over a used Game Boy Micro
Look at the screen for dead pixels or scratches, and make sure the brightness steps up and down. The battery is built in, and its charge life differs from one unit to the next, so it is not something a listing can promise. The Micro uses its own charger, which is not the same plug as the GBA SP or DS. Press every button and check that the cartridge slot holds a game pak firmly. Faceplates and chargers are included only if listed.

Can the Game Boy Micro play Game Boy Color games?
No. The Micro plays Game Boy Advance game paks only. Original Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges will not work in it. If you want to play those too, a Game Boy Advance, a GBA SP or a GameCube Game Boy Player is the better choice.
What charger does it use?
It needs a charger made for the Game Boy Micro. The Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo DS chargers use a different plug and do not fit. A charger is included only if the listing title says so.
Is the Game Boy Micro region locked?
No. Game Boy Advance games are not region locked, so the Micro plays GBA game paks from any region. Each game displays in the language it was released in, so imports stay in their original language.
