Full-body play on Xbox 360
Microsoft launched Kinect for Xbox 360 in 2010. The bar-shaped sensor sits above or below your TV and uses a depth camera, a color camera and a microphone array to track your whole body and pick up voice commands. There is no controller in your hands. You jump, kick and wave to play. It is at its best with dance and fitness games like Dance Central, Just Dance and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, and with party games such as Kinect Sports.
Connecting it to your console
The Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E have a dedicated Kinect port that supplies power, so the sensor plugs straight in. The original Xbox 360 lacks that port and needs Microsoft's Kinect power supply adapter, which connects to a USB port and a wall outlet. Kinect needs open floor space in front of the TV, roughly six feet between you and the sensor for one player, and more for two. It does not work with the Xbox One, which uses a different Kinect.
Checking a pre-owned Kinect
The listing is for the Kinect sensor itself, and the photo is representative. Accessories vary by unit. The power supply adapter, TV mount and any games are included only if the title lists them. When it arrives, check that the base tilts, that the cable and plug are intact, and that the console recognizes the sensor in its Kinect settings. Wipe the lenses gently with a dry cloth if they are dusty.
Questions about this item
Will this Kinect work with my Xbox 360?
It works with every Xbox 360 model. The S and E plug it straight into the Kinect port. The original model needs the Kinect power supply adapter, sold separately. It does not work with the Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles.
How much space do I need?
Plan for about six feet of clear space between you and the sensor for one player, and about eight feet for two. The sensor works best in a well-lit room with nothing blocking its view of the play area.
What is included?
The Kinect sensor itself. The power supply adapter, TV mount, games and any other accessories are included only if the title says so. Accessories vary by unit, and the photo shows a representative sensor.
