The New 3DS Edition offers the two main ways to play Minecraft. In Survival, you punch trees for wood, craft tools, dig for coal and iron, and build shelter before creepers, zombies and skeletons come out at night. In Creative, you have unlimited blocks and can fly, so the game becomes a digital building set. The touch screen handles the map and inventory, which keeps the top screen clear for the world itself. Every new world is generated fresh, so no two starts look the same.

Why it needs a New 3DS

This edition was built for the faster processor in the New Nintendo 3DS family, so it will not start on an original 3DS, 3DS XL or 2DS. It runs on the New Nintendo 3DS, New 3DS XL and New 2DS XL. Mojang released it digitally first, and the game card version came out only in North America in 2017. A later update added local wireless play for two nearby systems, with each player needing a copy of the game. Online multiplayer was never part of this edition.
