Eight drivers, four cups, three engine classes
Super Mario Kart builds its Grand Prix around 50cc, 100cc, and unlockable 150cc competition. Eight drivers have different acceleration, speed, weight, and handling tendencies. Coins raise top speed and protect against spins, while items create opportunities to attack or recover. Five-lap courses reward learning corners and hazards rather than relying only on a late item.
Split-screen competition beyond Grand Prix
Two players can race head to head in Match Race or enter Battle Mode’s enclosed arenas, where the goal is to burst the opponent’s balloons. Time Trial provides a one-player route to cleaner laps without item interference. These modes establish the series’ racing, record-chasing, and arena-battle structure in a focused 16-bit format.
The original Super Nintendo cartridge
This pre-owned loose cartridge is the original SNES game, not Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or a Switch cartridge. One or two players use compatible Super Nintendo controllers. The cartridge can retain Time Trial records through its internal save hardware, while cups are designed as self-contained sessions.
