Castle Oblivion, one floor at a time
Sora, Donald and Goofy enter Castle Oblivion, a place where memories slip away the higher they climb. Each floor is built from map cards you play at doors, so the rooms change depending on the cards you choose. Familiar worlds like Agrabah, Halloween Town and Monstro return as reconstructed memories, while Organization XIII members Marluxia, Larxene and Axel watch from above. Namine, a girl tied to Sora's memories, sits at the center of the plot and sets up events that carry into Kingdom Hearts II.
Card battles in real time
Combat runs in real time, but every attack, spell and summon is a card in Sora's deck. Card values from 0 to 9 decide who wins a clash, and a 0 card can break an opposing card when played after it. Three cards played together form a sleight, such as Sonic Blade or Firaga. Building a deck that cycles smoothly matters more than button mashing. After the main story, Reverse/Rebirth puts you in Riku's shoes, with decks set by each floor and a Dark Mode that changes how fights play.

Look at the data side of the disc for deep scratches, especially rings that run around the disc, which are more likely to cause read errors than short scuffs. Cracks near the center hole are worth avoiding. The game saves to a PS2 memory card, which is included only if the listing title names one, so plan for a card with free space. It plays on any North American PS2, original or Slim. Only the earliest backward compatible PS3 models can run PS2 discs, and later PS3 models cannot. The disc is region locked to North American (NTSC-U/C) consoles.
