Pick a side in the Civil War
The story opens with Nick Fury leading a secret mission that goes badly wrong, and the fallout pushes the government to pass the Superhuman Registration Act. Heroes must unmask and register or become outlaws. Partway through, the game makes you choose. Iron Man leads the pro-registration side, and Captain America leads the resistance. Your pick changes which heroes you can recruit and several of the missions you play before both paths come together against a larger threat in the final act. It is a good excuse to play through twice.
Four heroes and Fusion attacks
You control a team of four Marvel heroes, switching between them on the fly while the others fight alongside you. Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man and Deadpool are among the familiar faces. The big new idea is the Fusion attack, where two heroes combine their powers into one screen-clearing move, and each pairing looks and works differently. Characters level up as you play, and you spend points on their powers, which gives the brawling a light RPG layer and a reason to try new team lineups.
Notes on the PS2 edition
The PlayStation 2 version was built by a different studio than the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases, so it has its own presentation and some differences in content. It plays on any PS2 model and on early PlayStation 3 consoles that include PS2 disc support. Look at the disc surface for deep scratches, and keep a PS2 memory card handy for saves. The case, manual and memory card are included only if the title says so.
