New 3DS power without the 3D

Nintendo released the New 2DS XL in North America in July 2017, a few months after the Switch launched. It uses the internals of the New 3DS line, including the faster processor, the C-Stick and the ZL and ZR buttons, but both screens are 2D only. For anyone who always played with the 3D slider turned down, that is no loss, and the system is lighter than the New 3DS XL. The bottom touch screen doubles as an amiibo reader, so figures and cards work without any add-on.

Games that run on the New 2DS XL

Every 3DS game card works here in 2D, including Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Kirby: Planet Robobot. So do the titles that only run on New 3DS hardware, such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition, plus the full Nintendo DS card library. The game card slot and the microSD card slot sit behind a small cover on the front edge, so you can swap cards and storage without tools. There is no Game Boy Advance slot.
