Johto first, then a second region
The adventure begins with Johto’s eight Gyms, Team Rocket’s return, and a path toward the Pokémon League. Afterward, the route continues through Kanto and another full set of Gyms. HeartGold places Ho-Oh at the center of its legendary storyline and has a version-specific encounter mix, so it is not interchangeable with SoulSilver for collectors or team planning.
Your lead Pokémon follows on the field
The first member of the party appears behind the player in the overworld and can be spoken to for reactions or occasional finds. Touch-screen menus streamline party and item management, while fourth-generation abilities, physical/special move categories, held items, and local wireless trading and battling expand the original Gold structure. The Battle Frontier supplies rule-based postgame challenges.
Cartridge only, without the Pokéwalker
This pre-owned loose Nintendo DS cartridge stores one primary save file on the game card. Original retail packages could include a Pokéwalker accessory, but no Pokéwalker is included in this loose format. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection has ended, so current online features are not promised; nearby compatible systems can still use local wireless functions.
