Basketball by stylus

Released in 2006 and developed by Square Enix, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 moves nearly all of its controls to the touch screen. You tap to dribble, slide the stylus toward a teammate to pass and flick upward to shoot, while the D-pad moves your player. Drawing specific patterns on the screen triggers each character's special shot. Games are three against three, and you swap control between teammates as the ball moves around the court.

Coins, cups and Final Fantasy guests

Scoring works differently from real basketball. Dribbling over question panels on the court earns coins for your team, and each basket adds those coins to the points you score. Tournaments run through cups like the Mushroom Cup and Flower Cup on courts themed after Mario locations. Beyond the Mario cast, you can unlock Final Fantasy characters including the White Mage, Black Mage, Ninja, Cactuar and Moogle. Multiplayer works over local DS wireless, including Download Play from one card.
