From Veldin to Drek's new planet

Ratchet is a mechanic stuck on the desert planet Veldin until a defective robot, Clank, crash-lands with news that Chairman Drek of the Blarg is tearing pieces off other planets to build a new home world. The pair travel across the Solana galaxy to stop him, visiting worlds like Novalis, Kerwan, Rilgar and Orxon. Along the way they run into Captain Qwark, a TV hero who turns out to be far less helpful than advertised. Clank rides on Ratchet's back as a Heli-Pack or Thruster-Pack and gets short levels of his own.

Bolts, gadgets and the RYNO

Defeated enemies and smashed crates drop bolts, the currency you spend at Gadgetron vendors on weapons like the Bomb Glove, Blaster, Suck Cannon, Pyrocitor and Devastator. Gadgets open new paths: the Swingshot latches onto targets, the Grindboots ride rails and the Magneboots walk up magnetic surfaces. Forty gold bolts are hidden in tricky corners of the galaxy, and the priciest weapon, the RYNO, becomes a goal in itself. The Blackwater City hoverboard races on Rilgar break up the shootouts.

Picking a used Ratchet & Clank disc

Ratchet & Clank was sold with the original black label and later as a Greatest Hits release, and both hold the same game. Either one may be what ships. Hold the disc under light and look for rings that follow the data track, which cause more trouble than short scratches. The game saves to a PS2 memory card, which you need to supply unless the listing names one. The case and manual come only when the title says so.
