Wander, Agro and the Forbidden Land

Sony released Shadow of the Colossus in North America in 2005, made by the team behind Ico. A young man named Wander rides his horse Agro into the Forbidden Land carrying the body of a girl named Mono. A voice called Dormin promises to bring her back if he destroys sixteen colossi that roam the valleys, lakes and deserts. There are no towns, dungeons or regular enemies, just long rides between fights and a sword that reflects light toward each colossus.

Climbing a moving boss

Each colossus is a puzzle. You look for fur to grab, ledges to pull yourself onto and glowing weak points to stab, all while it tries to shake you off. A grip meter drains while you hang on, so you pick moments to rest. Some fights happen on horseback across open ground, others in water or high above the ground on a flying colossus. Finishing the story opens Time Attack challenges that reward new items for replay.

Buying the PS2 original used

Saving needs a PS2 memory card, which is not included unless the title says so. The case and manual are included only if listed. A later PS3 remaster and a PS4 remake exist, but this disc is the original PS2 release.

You ride across a large, empty land on horseback, find each colossus with your sword's beam of light and then climb it to strike its weak points. Most of the game is sixteen boss fights, each with its own trick to solve.

Will it play on my console?

It plays on any North American PS2, fat or slim. Early PS3 models with PS2 backward compatibility can run it too. Later PS3 models, the PS4 and the PS5 cannot play PS2 discs. It is a US disc, so it needs a US console.
