Wake up on the Great Plateau
Link wakes in the Shrine of Resurrection with no memory and steps out onto the Great Plateau, where an old man points him toward four shrines. Those shrines hand over the Sheikah Slate runes, Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis and Remote Bombs, which become tools for puzzles and fights for the rest of the game. Once you earn the paraglider, all of Hyrule opens up, from Kakariko Village to the snowy Hebra Mountains. There are 120 shrines to find, and Calamity Ganon waits in Hyrule Castle for whenever you feel ready.
Divine Beasts, cooking and climbing
The main quest sends Link to four Divine Beasts, giant machines taken over by Ganon: Vah Ruta above Zora's Domain, Vah Rudania on Death Mountain, Vah Medoh over Rito Village and Vah Naboris in the Gerudo Desert. Between them, the game rewards curiosity. Stamina limits how far you can climb and glide, weather changes how you dress, and cooking pots turn apples, mushrooms and monster parts into meals and elixirs. Weapons break with use, which pushes you to try new ones, and Korok seeds hidden across the map expand your inventory.
What to know about the Wii U version
This disc runs only on a Wii U console and plays with the Wii U GamePad, including off-TV play on the GamePad screen. The story, map and shrines match the Switch release. The Master Trials and Champions' Ballad expansions were sold separately as downloads, and the Wii U eShop closed to new purchases in March 2023, so treat this as the base game. Look over the disc for deep scratches, and note that the case and manual are included only if the title says so.
