A DS built around bigger screens
Nintendo released the DSi XL in North America in March 2010. It keeps the layout of the regular DSi, including two cameras, an SD card slot and volume buttons, but stretches both screens to 4.2 inches. That size makes text-heavy games such as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies much easier to read. The larger body also sits steadily on a table, which suits touch-based games like Picross DS. It charges with the same adapter style as the DSi and the 3DS family.
What the DSi XL plays
The DSi XL runs Nintendo DS game cards, including DSi-enhanced titles that add camera features, and the small group of DSi-exclusive cards. It does not have the Game Boy Advance slot found on the original DS and DS Lite, so GBA cartridges and DS accessories that used that slot, such as the Guitar Hero: On Tour grip, will not work. It cannot run Nintendo 3DS game cards either. The DSi Shop has closed, so new downloads are no longer available, but the built-in camera and sound apps still work.
