Sharper motion for the original Wii Remote
Nintendo released Wii MotionPlus in 2009 to extend what the original Wii Remote could do on its own. The remote senses movement and pointing, but the MotionPlus adds a gyroscope that tracks the angle and twist of your hand, so a sword swing or a table tennis paddle follows your wrist far more closely. It plugs into the port on the bottom of a standard Wii Remote and passes the connection through, so a Nunchuk can still plug into the back of it.
Games built around it
Wii Sports Resort was the launch game, with Swordplay, Archery, Table Tennis, Frisbee Dog and Bowling that react to how you hold and twist the remote. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword requires it for its directional sword combat, and Red Steel 2 uses it for sword fighting too. Sports games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Grand Slam Tennis support it for more precise swings. Game cases carry a MotionPlus logo that marks whether support is required or optional.
