MotionPlus without the add-on
Nintendo introduced the Wii Remote Plus in 2010 to fold the Wii MotionPlus gyroscope into the controller itself. Before that, players clipped a separate MotionPlus block onto the bottom of the remote. Games that require MotionPlus include Wii Sports Resort, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Wii Sports Club on Wii U. In Skyward Sword, Link's blade follows the angle of your swing, so you can slice a Deku Baba along the direction its mouth opens. The pointer, rumble and speaker of a regular remote are all still here.
Setting it up with a Wii or Wii U
The Wii Remote Plus syncs to a Wii or Wii U using the red button under the battery cover and the sync button on the console. It runs on two AA batteries and talks to the console over Bluetooth. Pointing at the screen needs a sensor bar plugged into the console. The expansion port on the bottom takes a Nunchuk or Classic Controller, and a Nunchuk is the usual partner for games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Checking a used Wii Remote Plus
Open the battery cover and look for corrosion on the springs and contacts, which comes from old batteries left inside. The four player lights should flash when you press the sync button. Test the pointer on the Wii Menu and the rumble when a game starts. Try the A and B buttons and the D-pad for stickiness. The silicone jacket, wrist strap and Nunchuk vary by unit and are included only if the listing title says so.

Do I still need a MotionPlus attachment?
No. MotionPlus is built into this remote, so games like Wii Sports Resort and Skyward Sword work without the clip-on accessory. It is also the remote that Wii Sports Club on Wii U asks for, so one controller covers both systems.
