Cat Mario and the Sprixie Kingdom
Bowser has bottled up seven Sprixie Princesses, and Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad follow him through a clear pipe into the Sprixie Kingdom to set them free. Each character handles differently. Luigi jumps higher, Peach can float for a moment and Toad runs fastest. The Super Bell turns anyone into a cat who can climb walls and pounce, while the Double Cherry creates copies of your character that all move at once. Other power-ups include the Boomerang Flower, the Cannon Box and the Light Box, and Rosalina joins the cast later on.
Four players on one screen
Up to four people can play at once, and the game keeps everyone on the same screen, which makes grabbing power-ups first and bumping friends into pits part of the fun. Each stage hides three Green Stars and often a stamp, and stars gate your progress across the world map. Captain Toad gets his own puzzle stages where he cannot jump, and the GamePad touch screen lets you tap blocks and stun enemies. Plessie, a dinosaur who carries the whole team down rushing rivers, is a highlight.
Picking up a used 3D World disc
This disc needs a Wii U console. You can play with the GamePad, a Wii U Pro Controller, a Wii Remote held sideways, a Wii Remote with Nunchuk or a Classic Controller, so extra players can use controllers you may already own. Look over the disc for deep scratches before a long session. The case and manual are included only if the title says so. The Switch release, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, is a separate game card and does not work in a Wii U.
