Eight-Player Smash and a big roster
Released in 2014, Smash for Wii U introduced Eight-Player Smash on large stages such as Big Battlefield and The Great Cave Offensive. The roster brings back Mario, Link, Samus, Pikachu and other series regulars, and adds Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina and Luma, Greninja, Shulk, Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Pac-Man and customizable Mii Fighters. Stages range from Mario Galaxy and Kalos Pokemon League to Wuhu Island and Skyloft, and a Stage Builder lets you draw your own layouts on the GamePad.

Smash for Wii U supports almost every Wii U input. The GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Remote, Wii Remote with Nunchuk and Classic Controller all work, and GameCube controllers plug in through the separate Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter. A Nintendo 3DS running Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS can act as a controller too. Modes include Classic, All-Star, Smash Tour, Event Mode and Special Orders, plus trophy collecting, and amiibo figures can be trained as computer fighters.
